English as a New Language 1 – FX ESL

This course is designed for the rapid mastery of the English language fundamentals, which focus on: reading, writing, speaking, language, and listening skills.  Students will learn academic vocabulary, how to speak to teachers and peers about common school and community topics, and will learn about the culture and customs of the United States as they relate to the academic needs of high school.  They will complete units covering the alphabet, verbal introductions, reading and grammar, and numbers including time, calendars, money, basic math computation and application.  Students will also learn to speak and listen for common phrases and language to support participation and success at school.
