American Sign Language 1A

This course covers grammar, vocabulary and culture for beginning American Sign
Language (ASL). American Sign Language is a visual and gestural language that is
established with its own structure. ASL is a distinct language and is associated with
Deaf Culture. Students will learn to sign and use basic signs and phrases. Signing skills
will include: signing about home and family, using signs to show events or sign short
stories, signing effectively with others in basic conversation, and learning about the
