American Sign Language 1B

This course covers continued use of grammar, vocabulary, and culture for beginning American Sign Language (ASL). This is a second-semester course and builds on skills learned in ASL 1A. American Sign Language is a visual and gestural language that is established with its own structure. ASL is a distinct language and is associated with Deaf Culture. Students will continue learning basic signs and grammar to effectively communicate with the Deaf. Students learn to sign and understand basic words and phrases. Students will also learn about notable figures in deaf history, and improve their understanding of the deaf experience. This course is a Quality Matters certified online course. View full syllabus.
