This is the second semester of a two semester English 8 course that aligns to the Idaho Core standards. The course is focused on responding to change, beginning with a look at the literary genre of drama while reading the play Trifles. Students will study how to understand and write strong arguments, structuring their writing around the claim and counterclaim. Students will have the option to select one of three novels to read and consider what it means to be free.Throughout the course, students will investigate questions such as, What is the purpose of drama?, What is my responsibility as a citizen of the world?, How do I form my own opinions in the midst of so much information?, How does literature help me to better understand how to deal with change in my life?, and How do I defend my opinion against other opinions? This course is a Quality Matters-certified online course. View full syllabus
