If 2025 had a spark, it was innovation. Across IDLA, people tested new ideas, explored new tools, and reimagined learning. Much of that excitement centered around BusyBee, IDLA’s new AI tool. Content Development Specialist Lisa Kabel said, “This year has been un-bee-lievably fun” as she explored “creative and meaningful ways for students to safely interact with AI.” Her joy in watching “our hive of innovation grow” reflects the energy many staff felt as they used AI in new ways.

Ashlee Kolar also described how the team’s willingness to work through the LMS conversion and test new systems taught her valuable lessons about collaboration. Together, teams from EdTech, content development, instruction, and support refined systems that will impact students for years. These projects took patience, creativity, and teamwork, all qualities the IDLA staff has in abundance.

IDLA teachers across subjects brought their own innovative approaches to the year. Beginning Ukulele Instructor Maddie Morris shared how teaching music online for the first time “rekindled my love for teaching.” Digital literacy instructors found new videos and strategies to help students learn skills for today’s world. ASL instructors leaned into AI to expand learning possibilities. And science teachers like Benjamin Satterwhite were inspired by students’ resilience, noting how many students balanced school, work, and family with strong determination.

Innovation also happened behind the scenes. Course developers redesigned assignments, updated curriculum, and tested new formats. HR and Finance teams tackled a major facility move and kept operations running smoothly. Regional and district support staff spent the year working closely with schools across Idaho. As Peter Miley put it, he gets to see “dedicated educators, innovative leaders, and just baller people who pour their hearts into helping students succeed.”

Innovation at IDLA is not about chasing the newest trend. It is about imagining what students need and building something better for them. It is about trying new tools, asking questions, and working together. As we recharge for the coming year, we look forward to the ideas, creativity, and solutions that will grow from this bold and imaginative team.
