From Caldwell, Idaho, to a Creative Future

From her lifelong home in Caldwell, Idaho, Amanda Milton has grown up surrounded by family, creativity, and a strong sense of community. She enjoys all things related to the arts, loves baking and cooking, and is endlessly curious about niche topics that lead her down research rabbit holes, from Prohibition era history to psychology and phobias. Outside of school, Amanda also volunteers at her local church, supporting children’s programs and taking on a variety of roles each week.

Amanda’s journey with Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA) began while attending a charter school, where online courses were encouraged as a way to access classes not offered on campus. She was drawn in by the variety of options and the opportunity to explore creative subjects. “I decided to enroll in IDLA courses because I liked all the different things offered,” she shared. “My first course was actually a summer course for Fashion and Interior Design, and I loved it so much.” The ability to earn college credit and move through lessons at her own pace further solidified her interest in online learning.

Online education also gave Amanda the flexibility to better balance school with responsibilities at home. With a schedule that allows her to complete coursework efficiently during the day, she is able to spend time with family, help with household needs, and support her grandfather with doctor visits. This structure has made it easier for her to manage daily life while staying focused academically, and it has allowed her to create a learning environment that works best for her.

Through her IDLA courses, Amanda has developed skills that reach beyond academics. She learned how to manage her time, discovered how she learns best, and gained confidence in herself. One especially meaningful experience came from her English 102 course, where her teacher, Mrs. Mann, challenged her to grow as a writer and thinker. The course culminated in an essay advocating for the importance of art education, an experience that helped Amanda strengthen her voice through detailed feedback and new writing strategies.

As she looks ahead to life after high school, Amanda’s goals have continued to evolve. After being accepted into AMDA College of Performing Arts for the Acting on Camera program, she is preparing for a future that will take her far from home, both geographically and creatively. She believes her time with IDLA has been instrumental in preparing her for what comes next. “Out of all of the experiences I’ve had, I think IDLA has helped me the most as it pushed me to be more responsible in my day-to-day life, and to stand up for myself and for the things I believe in,” she said.

For students considering IDLA, Amanda encourages starting with a course that sparks genuine interest and building from there. With thoughtful planning, clear communication, and a willingness to explore, she believes online learning can open doors to both academic and personal growth. With a strong foundation in place and a clear creative path ahead, Amanda is ready to take her next steps with confidence.
