High school can come with a lot of questions about the future. What classes should you take? Should you go to college? What should you study? What kind of career do you want? It can feel like you are supposed to have answers before you have had enough time or experience to figure them out.

The good news is that you do not need your entire future planned right now. Think of your future as a path that becomes clearer as you move forward. You might have an idea of where you want to go, but you will learn more about yourself along the way. Your interests may change, and new opportunities may appear.

If you are not sure what comes next, focus on one step you can take now. Try a new class or activity. Volunteer for something that interests you. Talk to someone who works in a career you are curious about. Ask a teacher, counselor, coach, or another trusted adult for advice. Small experiences can teach you a lot about what you enjoy and what you want to explore next.

You may also make choices that do not turn out the way you expected. That does not mean you failed. Maybe you join a club and discover it is not for you. Maybe a class you thought you would love turns out to be a poor fit. Learning what you do not want can be just as useful as discovering what you do want.

You do not need to have your whole life figured out by graduation. Instead of worrying about every turn ahead, focus on the next one. Take a step, learn from it, and keep going. You may find your path by exploring it one step at a time.
