Maybe you have always planned to attend a certain college, play a certain sport, or pursue a certain career. Then something changes. Your interests shift. A plan does not work out. You discover something new that excites you. Suddenly, the future you pictured looks different.

Changing direction can be uncomfortable. You might worry that you are disappointing someone or giving up on a goal. You may even feel like the time and effort you already spent were wasted. But changing your path does not erase what you have accomplished or learned.

Imagine you spent years playing a sport and then decided not to continue after high school. You still gained skills from that experience. You learned about teamwork, practice, commitment, and how to handle both wins and losses. Those lessons can travel with you wherever you go next.

As you move through high school, you will learn more about yourself. Your goals at 17 may be different from the goals you had at 14, and that is a normal part of growing up. Give yourself room to explore new interests and rethink old plans. Changing direction because you have learned something new is not the same as giving up.

Your first plan does not have to be your final plan. Sometimes finding your path means realizing that a different road fits you better. A change in direction might feel uncertain at first, but it could also lead you somewhere you never expected to go.
