Connection is at the center of everything IDLA does, and 2025 proved just how important those relationships are. Staff across the state reflected on the power of teamwork and support. Regional Support Specialist Ange Henning described her year as “both inspiring and rewarding,” adding that she was grateful for her “incredibly supportive Region 4 and District Services Teams.” These relationships strengthen the work IDLA does every day.

IDLA teachers also emphasized the importance of connection. Instructor Josh Dickinson said this year reminded him how much he values “supporting students wherever they are.” Teaching Assistant Julie Lerice described how meaningful it was to help elementary students grow in reading and confidence. Others, like Emalee Cannon, spoke about the value of feedback from principals and leaders to help them improve each year.

Even new staff felt the connection right away. April Williams said her experience so far has been shaped by intentional training and teamwork. Teacher Michelle Lewis shared that this year gave her a deeper appreciation for “how all of the pieces mesh together,” explaining that she now understands the importance of every role more fully. These reflections show how strong and welcoming IDLA’s community is.

Instructors like Greg Cossette reflected on IDLA’s long history, reminding us that the organization began with “a small group of dedicated, visionary educators with a shared dream.” Today, that dream has grown into a statewide community serving students from every background. His reflection reminds us that IDLA’s strength has always come from its people.

As we reflect on the past year and prepare to recharge, we hold onto the understanding that connection is what makes IDLA unique. It brings us together in celebration, in challenge, and in purpose. And it will continue to guide us as we move into the future.
